Set in the rolling countryside in central France, south of the Loire Valley, La Jacquetiere sits in six acres of private farmland, in the hamlet of Le Chatelier near Paulmy and close to the villages of Le Grand-Pressigny, Ligueil, Chatellerault and Descartes.
Château du Châtelier
The beautiful moated Château du Châtelier is a gentle five minute stroll away and provides a stunning backdrop to La Jacquetiere. The chateau was once the most fortified castle in France and its picturesque remains are actually an old castle from the Kingdom of England. Dating back to the twelfth century, it was used by the Kings of England as a stronghold to fight against the Kingdom of France. It was the first Protestant refuge in Touraine but is now a private residence which hosts classical and popular music events and parties, and is open year round for pre-arranged visits. For details of forthcoming events at the chateau in 2016, click here.
Le Chatelier has a population of around 50 inhabitants and lies around 100m above sea level. Paulmy has a population of around 250.
La Jacquetiere's history is not fully known but, as its name suggests, is thought to have been the area's jacket and coat maker. The farmhouse is 100 years old, with other properties on La Jacquetiere dating back 200 years.
Cycling paradise
The Loire Valley is a cyclist's paradise, with long, flat, quiet roads through Touraine and the 'land of a thousand ponds'. The Brenne National Park provides stunning routes for cyclists and ramblers.
