Vineyards, Vouvray and Wine Caves of Chinon
Many visitors to the Loire Valley enjoy the beautiful rolling vineyards that stretch for miles and have made the country world-renown for wine production. La Jacquetiere is less than an hour's drive from the famous cities of Tours and Chinon, with their exceptional wine caves, royal fortress, restaurants and bars, river and shops. This stunning region is lined with vineyards, most of which welcome visitors for wine tasting experiences throughout the year.
Markets and Brocantes
Markets are the French holiday must-do with many local producers and growers coming together each week to sell their produce. Olives, bread, oil, flowers, fruits and vegetables, local handicrafts, scarves, handbags and of course, cheese. Most towns have a weekly market but particularly notable are those in Descartes, Loches, Chatellerault and Poitiers. There are local brocantes on almost every weekend. Here, visitors find a wealth of French items from vintage furniture to crockery and clothing.
Outdoor/municipal pools/rivers
A 15 minute drive into Descartes brings you to a municipal campsite which boasts fantastic facilities open to the public. There are beautiful landscaped gardens to enjoy, animal park (free to enter), children's play areas and outdoor and indoor swimming pools. There are four outdoor pools with two water slides perfect for children of all ages. Lifeguards are on duty to keep everyone safe. There is a cafe and bar serving light snacks, drinks and ice creams. There are also other public pools in Le Grand-Pressigny and Ligueil. There are several rivers for swimming, canoeing, paddle boarding or picnicing close by.
The coast
If you love to visit the coast, where better to visit than the old city of La Rochelle on the West coast of France? With the old town, port, beaches, the famous Fort Boyard and great shopping, La Rochelle is just a two and half hour drive from La Jacquetiere.
